Air conditioner Installation in Grand Forks,ND
Grand Forks summers are short, but anyone who's tried to sleep upstairs during a humid July heat wave knows how much a working air conditioner matters. Whether your old AC finally gave out or you're adding central air for the first time, True Comfort Heating & Cooling will help you pick the right system and install it right.
We're a locally owned HVAC company serving Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and the surrounding area since 2018. We're licensed, bonded and insured in North Dakota and Minnesota. We give fair prices and honest advice, and we stand behind our work.
When it's time for a new air conditioner
An AC repair is often the right call, and we'll tell you when it is. Replacement starts to make sense when:
- The unit is older and needs repairs every summer
- It uses an older refrigerant that's getting expensive to service
- Your electric bill keeps going up in the summer
- The house never gets cool, or upstairs stays much warmer than the main floor
- The outdoor unit has a failed compressor or a leaking coil
If you're
replacing a furnace at the same time, it's often worth looking at both together. A matched furnace and AC usually work better as a system, and you only schedule one install. We'll lay out both options so you can compare..
We provide a wide range of professional services to meet your needs. We promise to provide every service with a smile, and to your highest level of satisfaction.
Adding central air to a home that doesn't have it
Plenty of older Grand Forks homes were built without AC. If you already have a forced-air furnace and ductwork, adding central air is usually simple. We'll check that your ducts and furnace blower can handle it.
No ductwork? A ductless mini split may be the better fit, especially for older homes, additions, finished attics and garages. See our heat pump and mini splits page.
How our AC installation works
Free estimate
Request a free estimate online or call 701-885-4312. We'll call you within one business day.
Right-sized, not oversized
A bigger AC is not better. An oversized unit cools the house fast but shuts off before it pulls the humidity out, so the house feels cold and clammy. We size the system to your home's size, insulation, windows and sun exposure.
Clear options
We install Goodman air conditioners. We'll walk you through efficiency (SEER2) ratings, single-stage vs. two-stage or variable-speed, and what makes sense for how long you plan to stay in the house. You'll get a written quote first.
Installation day
We set the outdoor unit on a level pad, install the indoor coil, run and pressure-test the refrigerant lines, evacuate the system, wire it and set the thermostat. We'll give you a timeline with your quote.
Testing and walkthrough
We check refrigerant charge and airflow, make sure it's cooling the way it should, and show you the basics. We'll go over your Goodman warranty and how to register it.
Short season, but don't cut corners
Because our cooling season is short, it's tempting to go with the cheapest unit. Sometimes that's the right call, and we won't push you into more than you need. But a sloppy install, with a bad refrigerant charge, poor airflow or the wrong size unit, costs you comfort and money every summer. The install matters as much as the brand.
The best time to replace an AC in Grand Forks is spring, before the first hot week when everyone calls at once.
Frequently asked questions
How long does an AC installation take?
A straight replacement is usually quicker than adding central air for the first time. We'll give you a timeline with your written quote.
What size air conditioner do I need?
It depends on your home's size, insulation, windows and sun exposure. Oversizing is common and makes homes feel clammy. We size each system to the house.
Should I replace my furnace and AC at the same time?
Not always. If both are older, doing them together often makes sense: the equipment is matched and you only have one install. If your furnace is newer, we can replace just the AC.
Can you add central air to an older home?
Usually, yes. If you have forced-air heat and ducts, central air is often straightforward. If not, a ductless mini split is a good option.
When is the best time to replace an AC in Grand Forks?
Spring, before the first heat wave. You get more scheduling flexibility, and you're not sweating it out waiting for an install.
Do you offer financing on air conditioners?
Yes, through GoodLeap, subject to credit approval. It uses a soft credit check until funding.
